Control is one of my favorite pieces. Not because of the idea I had and then brought to life… but the conclusions I came to about myself and about my work after painting it. This piece came from quickly collaging different images I gravitated towards and then painting it. No thoughts, just instinct. And through it I discovered what would become my artist statement and what drives the little artist compass inside of me.. Beauty and Pain, Freedom and Control, Life and Death, Love and Heartbreak… they all coexist in every moment for all of time. And it makes life nuanced and depth-y and interesting. And it makes art that way, too.
